The knowledge I gained in school helped me to make that ‘life changing’ decision into changing my job at the time and ultimately, the entire direction of my career. I couldn't be more thankful for that.

Alumnus, Michael Brown, received both his undergrad and graduate degrees at Robert Morris. Most recently, he received his masters in Business Administration and Human Resources.

While at school, Brown played hockey and worked at a hospital. He was originally planning to move up within the department after he graduated. It was after taking classes at Robert Morris that Brown realized he wanted to make a change.

“The knowledge I gained in school helped me to make that ‘life changing’ decision into changing my job at the time and ultimately, the entire direction of my career. I couldn't be more thankful for that.”

Now, Brown is a HR consultant for Chicago McOpCo, a company owned by McDonald’s. He began working for McDonalds as an intern while he was still working towards his masters at RMU.

“Being able to turn my internship into a career would have to be my biggest accomplishment.”

His other accomplishments include recently winning two awards in recognition for his work at McDonalds.

“In 2013, my team of four consultants and a manager were recognized with an award for USHR Strategy,” he said. “Just this past February, I was recognized for my work in 2014 as I was awarded the US MCOPCO Above and Beyond Award for Operations Support Excellence.”

Brown hopes to continue to work at McDonalds. In five years, he would like to be an HR manager for the Chicago region and continue to move up in the company.

“There are so many opportunities with a company like McDonalds so whether I stay in HR or get into operations, I plan on continuing my career with them.”

Brown still finds time to attend RMU sporting events, as well as play hockey every week. He hopes to play “as long as he possibly can” since he “still has as much love for the game that he did when he first started.”

In regards to success after graduation, Brown says that networking is key. He also says that the learning never stops once you’re out of the classroom.

“There will always be updates, new laws, and different ways of doing things, so it’s important to be open to these types of learning opportunities. Just because school is finally over does not mean that you shouldn’t have that mindset for continuing your education through certifications, online courses, seminars or even going back to school.”
